The Institution is situated in Muleba district in the north west of Muleba town. It is about 20kms from Muleba district head quarter and 90kms from Bukoba municipal. It is in high plateau. It was opened in 1963 with the agreement of Ministry of Hearth and Social Welfare, Bukoba Catholic Diocese and Sisters of Franciscan from Breda Netherlands. The sisters and donors from Netherlands provided support on building, equipment, teaching staff and other necessary facilities for accommodation and training. RSN started with one training programme that was training of nurses, and then in 1970 introduced another course of midwifery.

The training started with seven students; gradually it increased it’s admission by now it has a capacity of admitting 200 students per year, currently 170 students are admitted. In September 2004 the training was upgraded to admit students who have to take diploma course In-services two year program from enrolled nurse “B” to be registered as nurse “A”. In 2008 the training was granted permission by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to take students who have completed form four or form six with passes in science subjects to undertake the course of three years and Pre- service (NTA level 6) be registered as registered nurse grade “A” (Pre-service). Also in 2009 a two years Diploma program changed to be a one year program & in 2012 a two years Pre- service certificate was introduced.

By academic year 2014/2015 RSN has changed its name to become Rubya Health Training Institute (RHTI) where by the Medical Laboratory Department  and Clinical Medicine introduced.
